Best Disneyland Tips and Tricks- Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
It’s so exciting to finally have Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge open at the Disneyland Resort! Many guests this summer have said they are able to walk right into the new land first thing in the morning when the Resort opens. In the event the land reaches capacity, you can request a virtual Boarding Pass to enter the land at a later time. Just log in to the Disneyland app to check the accessibility and see if you need to request a Boarding Pass. If you do, you’ll get into a virtual line via the app, and you will receive a notification when you can access the land. You’ll have two hours to respond to the notification and enter Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and you’ll have as much time as you’d like to explore the land once inside.
In Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, you’ll find a number of outposts for shopping and dining, as well as one of two rides: Millennium Falcon (the second ride, Rise of the Resistance, will open in Disneyland Park January 17, 2020). If you’d like to build you own custom lightsaber at Savi’s Workshop, you can use the Disneyland app to make a no-cost reservation. Only 14 guests can enjoy this exclusive souvenir experience at a time, so be sure to make your same-day reservation as early as possible. The cost is $199, and if you don’t show for your lightsaber reservation, you’ll be charged a $199 cancellation fee.
In order to check out Oga’s Cantina, one of the dining outposts in Galaxy’s Edge, you must make a no-cost reservation via the Disneyland app. There is a 45-minute time limit to experience the Cantina and there is also a two-drink maximum. It is a family-friendly Cantina, serving snacks, non-alcoholic and alcoholic drinks.
When you’re ready for a ride aboard the infamous Millennium Falcon, you’ll be able to experience one of six seats in the cockpit. Seat assignments are handed out at random by Disneyland Cast Members, but you can switch seats among the members of your party. No matter which role you assume aboard the Millennium Falcon, you’ll have an incredibly immersive experience that truly makes you feel like you’re part of the Star Wars universe.
Best Disneyland Tips and Tricks – Download the Disneyland App
The Disneyland app is one of the best tools to help you have a wonderful family vacation. It’s a free app, and it features a Disneyland Resort map, ride wait time estimates, mobile ordering and more. Use the app to order and prepay for food so you can skip the restaurant line. Find your favorite Disney Characters on the map and head over to get their autograph and a photo. See how long the wait is at the next ride and plan where you’ll go next. You can also check showtimes, ride closures and purchase Disney’s MaxPass with the Disneyland app.
Best Disneyland Tips and Tricks – Magic Morning
When you purchase 3-Day or longer Disneyland tickets from Get Away Today, you automatically have one Magic Morning for early access to Disneyland Park. Magic Morning is typically offered Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings, and with your 3-Day or longer Disneyland tickets you can choose one of those days to get into Disneyland Park one hour before it is open to the public. Many rides are open for Magic Morning so you can get a jump on some of your favorite experiences in Disneyland Park. Also, being in the Park an hour early means you can be among the first to request FastPass for rides that are not yet open.
Best Disneyland Tips and Tricks – Use FastPass and MaxPass
In case you’re not familiar with FastPass and MaxPass, I’ll give you the details on these two services at Disneyland Resort.
FastPass – This is a free service at Disneyland Resort that allows you to skip long wait times and request return times to ride select rides and see shows in the Parks. FastPass requests are made in person near the ride of your choice, and you’ll insert your physical Disneyland ticket into the kiosk to be assigned a return time. Make note of the time on the FastPass and, instead of waiting in the line, enjoy another attraction or feature of the Park. When your ride time draws near, head over to the ride and get on almost immediately!
MaxPass – This is a $15 per person, per day, optional add-on service. MaxPass can be purchased ahead of travel with your Get Away Today discount Disneyland tickets, or once you’re in the Resort you can use the Disneyland app to purchase MaxPass. When you have MaxPass, you can electronically request FastPass from anywhere in the Resort. Additionally, with the purchase of MaxPass you get unlimited PhotoPass downloads to your mobile device. Whether you download PhotoPass photographer or PhotoPass ride photos, you’ll be able to capture some of the most magical memories of your vacation for just $15 per day! That’s a huge savings compared to purchasing PhotoPass separately.
Whether you choose to use the free FastPass service or the additional-cost MaxPass service, it’s a great way to save time at Disneyland and fit in more rides, attractions and shows. Here’s a list of Disneyland rides and attractions that have FastPass:
- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
- Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters
- Haunted Mansion
- Indiana Jones Adventure
- “it’s a small world”
- Matterhorn Bobsleds
- Pirates of the Caribbean
- Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin
- Space Mountain
- Splash Mountain
- Star Tours – The Adventures Continue
Disney California Adventure Park rides and attractions that have FastPass:
- Goofy’s Sky School
- Grizzly River Run
- Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!
- Radiator Springs Racers
- Soarin’ Around the World
- Toy Story Midway Mania!
- World of Color
Since shows like Fantasmic! and World of Color were added to FastPass, they’ve run out much more quickly than rides; be sure to act quickly and make your FastPass requests as early in the day as possible. Space Mountain, Radiator Springs Racers and Toy Story Midway Mania! are among the first rides that run out of FastPass, so these are other attractions for which you need to make early requests.
Best Disneyland Tip and Tricks – Bring Your Own Food and Use Mobile Ordering
The last Disneyland tip I want to share with you is all about Disneyland and food. As long as you don’t bring in glass containers, and your cooler is soft-sided, you can bring your own food and drink into Disneyland. Coolers do have to be no bigger than a six-pack, but you can also bring in backpacks with your food and beverages. This is so helpful because you can save a lot of money on snacks, and keep everyone fed and happy throughout a day of exploring the Disneyland Resort. You can also rent lockers so you don’t have to haul your food around all day, which is a big plus for many.
You’ll probably want to indulge in some of the amazing food at Disneyland, so be sure to use mobile ordering to avoid waiting in line. There’s nothing worse than being hungry and tired and having to wait for food! So take advantage of this free service in the Disneyland app and get back to all the fun in the Resort faster! Like I mentioned above, you can open the Disneyland app and select “Mobile Ordering” to see the variety of vendors who participate in this free service. With mobile ordering you can make your menu selections, pay in advance and select a pick up time. Your food will be made fresh for you once your pick up time draws near. All you have to do is check in on the app a few minutes ahead of your pick up time to let the vendor know you’re in the area. At that point your meal will be prepared, and you’ll soon be able to pick it up at a separate window or counter.
